The first step in getting your website up and running is picking your domain name. You want to pick the right one that best portrays your business, industry, or relevat to what your website is. Company Website You first will want to try seeing if your company’s name is available as a domain name. If so, great then you are on the way. If not, you will have to do a little more research. What does your business provide? What is your industry? For example, my company does web design, hosting, maintenance, domain registration, etc. everything a person will need to get a website up and running. Now, luckily my business name was available as a domain name! I currently have registered; www.ozgdesign.co.uk and www.ozgdesign.com both of which goes to my company’s website. Let’s say that my company’s name wasn’t available. What would I do? Well I would have to look to what my company does. Maybe even the region where my company is located, or town. When the Internet first began gaining popularity, W3-Compliance wasn’t as necessary because there were fewer browsers, fewer users, and overall fewer technologies in use. With the growing popularity of the internet, new developmental tools are created daily. With these tools come new challenges – marketing, design, cross-browser compatibilty, etc. All of these can be a daunting task for those who aren’t well-versed in the W3C Standards. There are numerous technologies used by programmers like ASP, PHP, and Javascript to name a few. W3 has a set of standards for both XHTML and CSS, and making a website W3-compliant ensures that all viewers will see the site exactly the same way no matter what browser they’re using. Validation also helps with Search Engine Optimization (SEO) because clean code means easier search-engine spidering. |
A crucial aspect of being in the internet industry is developing your own website. You can use HTML codes to create static web pages or make use of a content management system or CMS which is more dynamic. In the recent years, CMS has become the choice of many when it comes to designing a website. What is CMS in the first place? A content management system is an application based on the web that allows the user to design and manage their website even without knowledge in programming and web design codes. |
The search engine makes a determination as to a) what sites are relevant for the word(s) the user has typed in and b) in what order to list them. This determination is worked out by a hugely involved and complicated algorithm written into the search engine itself. So for the word ‘computer’, the search engine will first look at all the sites which it considers relevant to computers and then display them in an order that it will calculate, based on a series of things. |
